Safran Electronics & Defense strengthens its resilient navigation portfolio with the acquisition of Syntony, expanding capabilities in GNSS, hybrid receivers, simulation, and underground positioning for critical global markets.

Strengthening Global Navigation Capabilities for Aerospace, Defense, and Space

Syntony announces a major milestone: its acquisition by Safran Electronics & Defense, part of the global high-technology group Safran. Founded in Toulouse in 2015, Syntony’s mission has been to ensure precise and reliable positioning when conventional GNSS systems reach their limits. This new chapter opens significant opportunities to expand that mission worldwide.

Over the past decade, Syntony has become a European leader in resilient GNSS technologies for complex and denied environments. Its work in CRPA, Software Defined Radio, and underground positioning addresses the growing vulnerability of GNSS signals to jamming, spoofing, interference, and availability. By joining Safran, Syntony strengthens its ability to scale these technologies and integrate them into navigation solutions for aeronautical, defense, space, and critical infrastructure markets.

The acquisition reinforces Syntony’s international reach through Safran’s global footprint and relationships with major aerospace and defense customers. Together, the companies will support long-term programs across civil aviation, defense platforms, and LEO satellites, markets where reliability and continuity are essential.

Hybrid GNSS, Simulation, and Underground Positioning: Key Synergies Driving Growth

A major synergy lies in combining Syntony’s resilient GNSS receivers with Safran’s inertial navigation technologies. This integration will enable hybrid PNT solutions capable of maintaining accuracy and integrity in challenging operational environments.

Syntony’s GNSS simulation platform, Constellator™, will continue to play a strategic role by enabling realistic testing of receivers against jamming, spoofing, multipath, and dynamic scenarios across the full lifecycle from R&D to qualification, including CRPA. Its SubWAVE™ solution, designed to extend GNSS coverage into underground and obstructed environments, will also benefit from Safran’s global network and long-term program expertise, expanding deployment capacity and market access.

By joining Safran, Syntony enters a new phase of growth, combining agility and innovation with the strength and global reach of a major industrial leader. Together, we are shaping the future of resilient PNT technologies.
